Altai - 11-days Whitewater Rafting on the Upper Katun River

Highlights

Katun means "princess" in the Altai language, and it is the most regal and beautiful of all the Altai Rivers. Her exhilarating, rolling rapids offer exciting adventure, yet this thrilling river is also accessible by first-time rafters. The upper reaches of the Katun? are spellbinding with crystal-clear water in which one can see pebbles on the river bed. On the trip down the Upper Katun? you will be confronted with up to four feet standing waves and whirlpools. After a few miles, where the Akkem River flows into the Katun you will enter the most exciting part of the trip: The class IV Akkem Pipe rapids are in a rocky corridor divided into eight distinct stages. The major difficulties are the drops with strong hydraulics.

Later on the route after the confluences of the Argut and Chuya rivers the waters of the Katun seem very similar to Grand Canyon of the Colorado. Very fast and powerful water with huge smooth waves?
