Altai - 9-days Whitewater Rafting on Katun

Highlights

Katun means "princess" in the Altai language, and it is the most regal and beautiful of all the Altai rivers. Her exhilarating, rolling rapids offer exciting adventure, yet this thrilling river is easily accessible by first- time rafters.

The Katun river springs at the south slope of Belukha mountain (4,506 m). The route lies through mountains, taiga, fields of high grass and flowers. The river valley narrows at the points of rapids. No swamps along the river - no gnats or mosquitoes. The water expenditure is some 150 cubic m per sec. The river width is about 150 m. The air temperature is 14-15 degrees C.

This spectacular 94-miles journey offers pristine alpine scenery, with a number of remote Altai villages along the way, where you can watch wool being spun on a hand spindle or hear traditional Altai throat singing.
