The White Sea, one of the most beautiful seas in terms of virgin nature and rich, original fauna, belongs to the basin of the Arctic Ocean. Every winter, Greenland seals give birth to their calves in the Northern part of the sea. (to check out our seals watching tour, please click here!) The uninhabited islands of the White Sea are home for may bird colonies and in the water live the famous white whales, also called Beluga. (have also a look at the Beluga watching tour!)
Sea life
The underwater world of the White Sea is rich in magnificent landscapes and wonderful sea life. Diving you will come across soft corals, actinia, sponges, sea-stars, crabs, hermit-crabs, sea-urchins, and shrimps. In wintertime you can watch fish from a very close distance - lancet-fish, tomcod, flounder, and pinogor. Under the ice, when visibility is 30-40 meters, you can enjoy breathtaking views of underwater rocks smoothly or abruptly disappearing in the dark depths, of kelps gently swaying in the bottom.

Itinerary |
|
Day 1
Moscow
Arrival to Moscow. You will be met at the airport by our driver holding a sign with your name on it. Transfer to a comfortable hotel in the center of the city. Free time.
Day 2
Moscow
Breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing tour of Moscow including Red Square, Lenin?s Mausoleum, St.Basil?s Cathedral, Moscow University, Bolshoi Theater, Christ the Savior Cathedral, Tverskaya Street and the Arbat by car with English speaking guide. (Duration 3.5 hours)
Afternoon tour of the Kremlin, the Armory Museum (collection of Gold, silver, jewelry, Faberge eggs, carriages and Czarist thrones), and cathedrals with English speaking guide.
Transfer to the train station. Departure 00:28 am.
Day 3
On the train
You will spend the whole day on the train in a comfortable wagon-lit. On the 1973-km trip to Chupa you can watch the nature of the Middle Russia gradually give place to the Russian North.
Day 4
In the Polar Circle Dive Center
04:10 Arrival to Chupa. Two-hour drive to the dive center.
06:00 Arrival to the center. Accommodation in a Comfort Double Room (with toilet, sink & shower)
Lunch. Free time for exploring the great outdoors, the center and the White Sea.
Welcome Dinner. Possibility of using a typical Russian Banya (Sauna).
Day 5 ? 8*
At The Polar Circle Dive Center
Full board at the center. Guided Diving. (two dives per day) The number of dives is limited of weather, your willingness and training. We recommend two dives per day. If you want to see the spectacular and prolific aquatic life often found in colder water climates you?ll need to stay warm and that means a dry suit. In the evening Banya.
* One day will be reserved for Excursions to get introduced to the culture and way of life in a authentic fishermen?s village, go fishing, bird watching or hike to the ruins of a Gulag from the epoque of Stalin.
Day 9
At The Polar Circle Dive Center
Guided Diving the whole day. After a rich farewell dinner transfer to the train station (2 hours). Departure 02:56 am.
Day 10
On the train
The whole trip back to Moscow. (27 hours)
Day 11
Moscow
Arrival to Moscow at 06:54am. Transfer to the hotel.
Free day for shopping and sightseeing or the possibility of another guided sightseeing tour to other interesting spots of Moscow.
Day 12
Moscow
Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to the airport. Departure.
This program is a subject to change according to weather and other conditions to the instructor?s discretion.
You have also the possibility to visit St.Petersburg instead of Moscow or taking the plane instead of the train (plus $250).

Equipment and outfit requirement
Diving equipment
? Dry suit (neoprene dry suits are highly recommended).
? Heavy dry suit undergarment (highly recommended having two).
? Two unfreezing regulators arranged as following: first stage number 1 with primary second stage, BCD inflation hose and SPG, first stage number 2 with secondary second stage (octopus), dry suit inflation hose and SPG. The regulators must be serviced just before the trip.
? BCD (preferably with integrated weight system).
? Mask, fins.
? Gloves (highly recommended 3-finger mitts or dry gloves w/rings).
? Diving computer.
? Powerful torch, preferably rechargeable. Batteries, if needed, may be bought in Moscow.
All named equipment may be bought or rented in Moscow. But we highly recommend having your own equipment, which is double-checked and tested before the trip.
Outfit recommendations
? Warm underwear (two-layer or made of polartec) and warm socks.
? Warm sweater.
? Warm waterproof shoes.
? Warm anorak for cold weather.
? Warm cap covering the ears.
? Sunglasses with a UV filter to protect the eyes in sunny days.
Accommodation
The Polar Circle Ice Diving Center is a 5-star PADI center and has the following installation:
2 lodges: traditional Russian wooden houses with heating
Rooms: double rooms with a biotoilet and a washstand each
Drawing room: one of the lodges has a drawing room, where all the guests gather for meals and rest. Music, karaoke, TV and VCR with a collection of English-language films and records
Russian banya/sauna: open daily
Power: 220-V supply network with a German socket. UK socket adapters are available.
Communication: satellite phone ($4/min.)
Medical aid: The dive center has a medical attendant with a large experience of working on military rescue teams and in expeditions. Oxygen and a very good first-aid set are also available
Meals
Diving takes a lot of your energy and strength. To compensate for the losses, the dive center offers excellent high-energy food.
Breakfast:
Buffet breakfast with a large variety of classic European dishes.
Lunch:
Lunch of sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and fruit is offered on the diving site.
Dinner:
A very good evening meal of traditional Russian dishes.
(An individual vegetarian menu is available at preliminary request.)
Beverages and snacks:
Snacks, hot (tea, coffee, chocolate) and cold drinks are available 24 hours a day.
Strong drinks:
For dinner the director of the dive center offers free Russian drinks (vodka and beer). If you want some other drinks, please bring them with you, because the base does not have a bar.
